About Group Calendar

Group Calendar allows guilds or groups of friends to share an in-game event calendar. The guild can post raid events and members can post events for dungeons they need to do quests for. Additionally, players can provide feedback to the event's sponsor saying that they will or won't be attending an event. Once installed Group Calendar replaces the minimap current time tooltip and sun & moon icon. This can be used to open the UI or it can be opened using the /calendar command. For instructions on how to set up Group Calendar for your guild or for your personal use, see the online user's manual

Troubleshooting Disappearing Events

The most common problem people experience with Group Calendar is having events and signups disappear. There are several possible causes of this and here are a few things to check to try to clear up the problem:

  • Have the creator of the missing events and members who can't see the events try running the most current version (even if it's beta) of Group Calendar available. I'm always finding and fixing various bugs which can interfere with event processing and propagation so there's a chance the problem has been addressed.
  • Have the event creator choose "Rebuild Database" in the Group Calendar About tab. This will push a fresh and repaired copy of his events onto the network, overwriting any damaged copy that may be out there.
  • If the event creator uses more than one computer or has a friend/spouse/roommate who logs into his account from their own computers, try disabling GC for the creator's characters on those other computers. Group Calendar is designed to allow roaming between computers, but it is difficult for it to handle and it may not work reliably, especially if there aren't enough other users in the guild or if there are other Group Calendar bugs interfering with the propagation of events.
  • If using more than one computer, it's best to always choose the "Accept" option when told there are newer versions of your event data on the network. If that turns out to be the wrong choice and causes events to disappear, there will be an automatic backup in the GC Backup tab which can be used to restore those events. If friends or family log into your account from their computers let them know to always choose "Accept" as well if that dialog comes up.
  • If you've ever copied the WTF folder from your account to another account folder (to replicate your UI layout on the other account) then this will mess up Group Calendar because it will think your characters are owned by both accounts. Go into the WTF/Accounts/<login id>/SavedVariables folder for the account you copied to and delete the GroupCalendar.lua file. When copying your settings folder to another account like that, always omit the GroupCalendar.lua settings file or delete it after the copy.

  • 4.2 is just a compatibility release for WoW patch 3.0. Patch 3.0 introduces the new Bizzard calendar, which I expect everyone will eventually migrate to. Because of the poor support for multi-guild alliances I suspect some guilds will find it useful to have some time to keep using Group Calendar while they figure out how/when to switch to the new Blizzard calendar.

This version should also run under the current live WoW release as well, though the only new feature is that it's designed to detect conditions where your characters appear to be owned by two different accounts (this happens when you copy the WTF folder from one account to another account).

    v4.2b1 Changes

    - FEATURE: Compatible with WoW 3.0
    - FEATURE: Added detection of two accounts claiming to own the same character
    - FEATURE: Updated Russian translation, courtesy of StingerSoft
    - BUGFIX: Removed extra (Blizzard) time display from clock tooltip

For the past (approximately) two weeks, I have had issues with Group Calendar progressively gaining in memory load. When I load my UI, I expect the memory to spike a little bit while the addon syncs. However, after it is finished syncing, it continues to snowball. Within five minutes it reaches 10-15mb of memory usage and continues growing. (The first time I noticed it it had grown to 24mb of memory usage.) I have tried downloading the newest version (I was already using 4.1 but reinstalled anyway. I have also tried reconfiguring it, leaving it disconnected from any data channel, but the only way to keep it from eating up memory is to disable it entirely.
