Examiner - An Advanced Inspection Mod
Examiner is an advanced inspection mod which you can use to check other players gear, talents, honor and arena team details.
When you inspect someone, it will show a stat summery of all their equipped gear combined. Please note that these values are from gear alone, and will not include bonuses from buffs, talents or normal base stats.
Each player you inspect, will be cached so you can look them up later, even when they are no where near you. This option can be disabled if you prefer not to cache the people you inspect. To cache honor and arena details, you must enable the option to do so under the config page. Talents are not cached.
You can bind a key to inspect your target, you can even bind a key to inspect whoever is under your mouse (stealth inspection). To set this up, open the Key Bindings dialog and look under "Examiner".
Examiner uses about 160 kb of memory with no players cached.
You can always find the latest release of this addon on either WoWInterface.com or Curse.com. Post your comments, questions and suggestions for this addon on either of these sites.
Compare Gear
To compare one person's gear with another, you can mark a target for compare by right clicking on the "Stats" button to get a drop down menu to open, this menu will have an entry called "Mark for Compare".
When marked for compare, the Stats page will no longer show the actual stats of your inspected person, but will instead show the difference in stats compared to the person you marked for compare.
Sending Inspect Data to Another Player
Examiner can send the inspected data to another person who has Examiner. This is done through the AddOn Whisper Channel. By default, accepting addon messages in Examiner is disabled, you have to enable this on the Configurations page.
To send a player you have inspected to another person with Examiner, you have to first inspect a person or load them from your cache. After having done this, right click on the "Stats" button and select "Send To..." and fill in the name of the person you wish to send it to. If the send was successful and the person you sent it to received it, you will get a note in the chat frame that they got it.
Model Frame Controls
Left Click + Move: Moves the Model
Right Click + Move: Rotates the Model
Mousewheel: Zoom
Ctrl + Left Click: Change Background
Ctrl + Right Click: Toggle Background
Slash Commands
The slash command for Examiner is /examiner or just /ex.
Although you probably wont need to use any slash commands as almost everything is available from the UI, there are a few things which can only be done through slash commands.
/ex inspect 'unit' or /ex i 'unit'
This one will inspect the given unit (target, focus, party3 etc). If no unit token is given, it will inspect target and then player if no target exist.
/ex si 'itemLink'
This command will scan just a single item and list its combined stats in the chat frame.
Holding down ALT while the mouse is over an item in Examiner will show a tooltip with the stats like this.
/ex compare 'itemLink1' 'itemLink2'
Compares two items and lists the stat differences.
/ex arena 'rating'
Shows you the amount of arena points the given rating gives for 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5.
/ex scale 'value'
Changes the scale of the Examiner window.
/ex clearcache
Clears the entire cache of Examiner.
Future Plans
Adding more filter types to the "Set Filter" option using text syntax, a bit like the /who function in WoW is working. For example you could set the realm like this: "r:Burning Blade" then it would only show cached entries from Burning Blade. A level filter could work like this: "1-69" and would show all non 70s. Then add two new options for clearing the cache, one which clears all shown entries, and one which clears all the hidden entries.

harl said"The reason the talents aren't cached.."
Aezay, I don't see why you would have to cache all the talent informations for each of the cached characters separately - caching them once for every class after every new login, shouldn't be too much, if needed at all. Alternatively and much more preferable I think, you could utilize an add-on like Talented, or its data base Talented_Data respectively, to add all the information, so it's got the position of each talent in the trees and it's even localized.
Then caching the talent trees would need 1 or 3 additional byte strings to save which talents do actually have points on them and which don't. Like "50500001000000000000" for a druid having 5 points on Mark of the Wild, 5 on Naturalist and 1 on Omen of Clarity, with the zeros indicating empty talents. (Yeah, I know MotW is a strange choice of talent for a feral druid, but that's not the point, is it? ;)
Another idea on a rather side 'note', you could add support for notes created by add-ons like AuldLangSyne, so that it's easier to add notes and notes aren't split between add-ons. I often add notes to certain characters by adding them to my friends list, then adding the note and removing them from my friends list again, but that's kind of tedious, so sharing the same function to add a note to the inspected (or cached) char (and to see if there already is a note and be able to read it) may be pretty helpful.
Other than that, Examiner has no doubt proven to be a useful add-on. :)

Kibbs saidThe issue is not due to Examiner, but another mod... I removed Examiner, and the default POS Blizzard inspect frame still shows druid tree on everyone. Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out which mod of the 100 odd that I run it is.

sr1030nx saidI seem unable to inspect my talent tree using Examiner, although it works fine for everyone else.
Request: could you add the ability to remember talent tree's for people that you have inspected.

Blindgr saidI am having some talent's issue as well . same case as Bagglez's.I am pretty sure i have no other add on dedicated or involved with talent inspection.
In my case it happened in an instance as well . Examining a lock and a minute later looking a hybrid lock-druid o.O talent tree .Icons correct but tooltips incorrect.

Anferny saidAezay, so far so good with taking talents out of my Cowtip, Hopefully something will change in the future so that they will work for me. Thank you again.

Aezay saidAnferny & Bagglez, try and make your tooltip not show talents, and see if this fixes things. I myself have no problems with Examiner & TipTac showing talents, so I don't know if this is CowTip only problem. Let me know if you find out of anything, because since I simply cannot reproduce this behaviour you are seeing, there is little I can do to help.

enviri saidSince so many people use CowTip, perhaps you should test Examiner with it to fix the issue?

Aezay saidAnferny, it might have something to do with your tooltip mod. If your tip mod is showing player talents, it might interfere with Examiner, although I was never able to reproduce this. Just out of interest, which tooltip mod do you use, if any at all?

Anyone have a problem where you do not get tooltips while inspecting other players?

Aezay saidBagglez, it's your tooltip mod which is requesting inspect data to show talents in the tip.

Bagglez saidOk, that makes a lot of sense. Is there a way I can fix that without disabling spec information in my tooltip mod?

Bagglez saidI am having an issue where if I inspect someone and check their talents, it gives me the wrong talents entire. For example, I might inspect a warlock and get a warrior's talent tree to pop up. I know it is the same target because the gear tab works fine, and I know I haven't simply switched targets. It is also definitely not an issue of range since it happens when I am right on top of people. Sometimes what will happen is their correct talents will show then just change while I am looking at them to a totally different person's talents.

Zidomo saidNo, that's not the only option for mouseover comparison tooltips.
tekKompare is a decent option if you don't need the extra options of EquipCompare. It provides comparison tooltips virtually everywhere.
tekKompare is a lot lighter weight than EquipCompare & uses less computer resources (CPU/memory). Fewer options, but less bloat.
Yes, Blizzard has provided SHIFT-click for built-in equipment comparison tooltips since the 2.1 patch a year ago. But tekKompare (& EquipCompare) are more flexible and allow mouseover compare tooltips without having to press SHIFT.

firegrove saidAezay - first of all...great addon. I really appreciate the hard work that you've done on this and hope you continue to update it for a long time to come.
Secondly... one thing that I didn't like was that to open the screen and view the cache, you had to tie a macro to a button or type it out with a slash command. To simplify this, I created a Titan Panel plug-in that allow you to click on it and open the Examiner Frame. If you would like to include it with your distributed archive file, feel free. It can be found here:

Keep up the good work.
